The Kreutzer Sonata is one of Beethoven’s most iconic works, full of fire, beauty, audacity – and just a touch of humor where you’d least expect it.
The complete ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata (40 minutes) was filmed during the CD recording sessions and is now available as FullHD video. In a departure from the process of most live-music filming, the edited audio became the basis for the film and subsequent video editing. This required a special approach by video director Onno van Ameijde, since any take might later appear in the final editing. The effort and concentration of the camera operators was therefore continuous and constant, equal to that of the musicians take after take. The result is a spectacular experience of watching a live video session in which all the expression of the musicians in sound and image come together at the cutting edge.
